Kempton
5.40 – #5 Better Self
Course and distance winner and the worthiest opponent to Malice Or Mischief the fav for this race. Ran well in his last starts and proven over the latter in a recent class 5 claimer. Benefits a low draw but gone up in weights, nothing to excessive but can still a bit a worry, fortunately all other rivals have gone up in weights as well so a big chance this won’t affect him much. Goes under Ruby Walsh, had him for four stars winning three of them, one here at Kempton over course and distance when overpowered Malice Or Mischief. Respected jockey, team up former results leave no doubt for their chances. Opposition leader is of course Malice which presents a strong form and goes under Neil Callan which landed a win in all last three starts with him, but now carries higher weights once more and is drawn wide and though a small field can jeopardize his chances. Had been beaten by Ad Vitam in a recent Kempton run but the latter now carries much higher weights, drawn low and goes under much inexperienced jockey, so this tougher a challenge. Also threatened by Sofias Number One a not out of form recent maiden winner but as the other two goes up in weights and doubts he’ll handle this competitive field.
2 point win @ 4/1 with Bet365
3rd @ 5/1 -2 points
7.10 – #2 Beat Route
Won over course and distance on separate occasions, struggled in last couple of class 5 handicaps running a big field drawn widest in both runs. Now dropped back to class 6, shows improvement every time dropped down by class. Gave a good run here last January beaten by merely a head to 2nd by the long shot 25/1 My Valley, good chances for him now if able to recreate this run now back to class 6. Booked with usual Jemma Marshall, a modest rider but one with much experience riding the 4 year old, a fact which should be taken to account here.
1 point win @ 7/1 with Bet365
3rd @ 11/2 -1 point
8.10 – # I Confess
Top notch performance in recent starts and no stranger to handicaps at current class, should make a strong appearance here. Proven on course and distance, well drawn and weighted nicely to cope with this run. Booked with Matthew Cosham , done well last twice mount the 6 year old and could go well once more.

Kempton
5.50 -#9 Iguacu
Performing rather well in his last here beaten to 2nd by the long shot Carr Hall, leaving Abigails Angel behind not by much but still enough to prove superior. The only runner out of the 4 possibles with course and distance winner in his from, and though separately achieved should teach on his abilities for this run. Drawn harsh, a big downsize in this big field however managing decent results in past starts here where drawn wide and as last run came from a rather wide draw should be able to cope. Weighted same as last start same as Abigails Angel which holds an advantage over him in the draw but never proven to handle the 10 furlong trial. Booked with Dane O’Neill, one of top jockeys for current course, shows decent stats and done fairly well mount the 7 year old in the four times he was booked for a ride always big fields and never finishing under 4th position. Opposed by Grey Boy which holds superb form in his last starts but yet to prove on distance and carries massive weights. Also opposed by Nolecce, another in form contender but with high weights and running Kempton for the first time.
2 point win @ 9/2 with Bet365
Finished 9th -2 point
6.20 – #3 Carr Hall
Landed a massive 14/1 in his last here over course and distance under Luke Morris, ending a sour period of constant failures where struggled under weights and inexperienced mounts. Back to winning field under Luke Morris and enjoys a low draw once more. Penalized 6lb for recent success which might be a worry for this 8 year old, nevertheless carried such in past starts and though not succeeding much still seemed as if he can handle given the time to adjust. Could be denied by Dunnen Dream, a recent improver with complimenting draw and weights and with same mount as last two successful runs but never proved on course and distance and recently came off class 7. Another rival is Petomic, also a sudden improver and one dropped back to class 6 but now up in weights due to drop in class and booked with a mild jockey, James Sullivan.
1 point win @ 6/1 Bet365
3rd @ 11/2 -1 point
7.20 – #2 Island Legend
Course and distance winner and though coming 8th in his last, as up in weights and facing competitive field, gave a good run coming no far than 2 lengths from the winner Six Wives. Rather consistent up until then and should bounce again to his recent form. Booked with Richard Kingscote once more, same jockey for recent couple of wins, shows nice stats for AW, distance and race type. A whole bunch of rivals, at least four of them including Desert Strike, Best Trip and Boragh Jamal. Desert Strike coming off two recent mild claimers back to handicap and experiences a change of jockey, one which had him only once throughout his career and not with good results. Best Trip seems more of a danger here than the former presenting consistency but not sure he’ll appreciate drop in trip to 5f. Tough race, both for runners and us punters but with Island Legend currently showing a price of 10/1 an e/w would be the wisest decision here that is of course price remains at this level.

Southwell
2.20 – #5 Ridgeway Hawk
Course and distance winner and playing very well here at Southwell since booked with Robert Havlin. Last 4 starts well conducted apart mid February run where cam 4th as found it difficult on the weights and extended trip in a competitive field. Up 3 lb but carries only 2lb up since winning a big field at Wolverhampton in his last, drawn low and all in all enjoys a good momentum which should come to fruition. Opposed by Take Your Partner, a recent maiden winner and the fav in this field, booked with Philip Makin which by all means is far better jockey than Robert Havlin. However recent maiden do not imply abilities for this handicap and with the high weights and lack of proof over 6f serious doubts for this sudden improver. Can also be threatened by Elusive Love, still a maiden but one with a spark which might be thereabouts to snatch the finish line, but this unlikely to occur.
2 points win @ 11/4 with Bet365
2nd @ 9/4 – 2 points
3.30 – #5 Kingaroo
Won over course but yet to prove on distance, had a chance at it one time in his entire career and failed to deliver but with recent improvement coming 2nd over 12f might appreciate the drop in trip one furlong down. Booked with Billy Cray, a decent AW jockey and one with good stats for current race conditions, also seems to do well mount the 5 year old, more than any other ever riding him. Drawn low and weighted reasonably so little chances he’ll be denied. Opposed by Beau Fighter, a sudden improver under Dale Swift but now ridden on class up to 5 by Fergus Sweeney which failed to deliver with him and worry this team up would recreate the last poor class 5 runs they’ve had together. Also opposed by Trachonitis, an up down in form kind of runner but a veteran of current class 5 with having Paul Hanagan on board and course and distance wins under his wing, may be the danger even more than Beau Fighter.
1 point win @ 4/1 with Bet365
2nd @ 4/1 – 1 point
4.40 – #1 Restless Bay
Doing fairly well in his recent starts up to a mild claimer run in his last where came 5th probably due to race conditions and wide draw. Proven on distance with some spark for course as well, fair results under Chris Catlin, jockey for this field also. Drawn low and though weighted high, proved able under such. Jockey is decent but no more than that, still recent team up achievements cannot be ignored. Biggest rivals are Monsieur Jamie who beat Restless Bay beginning of March but enjoyed the benefit of low eights whereas now both weighted the same, and Even Stevens, a 4 timer but ended his winning run early January, coming off a break and up in weights.

Wolverhampton
2.20 -#8 Lake Chini
Course and distance winner, consistent in his last sequence of starts with excuses for the one before last where running class 5. Ran well in his last coming 2nd to Welcome Approach and beaten by a nose only, now back to favored field facing his last time rivalry once again but not without chances of overpowering him. Drawn harsh but proved able of handling such stall position, dropped in weights a bit, nothing significance but definitely wouldn’t hurt. Graham Gibbons on board, third in list of top jockeys for course, had him in three last progressing rather well, jockey shows decent stats for both course, distance and race type for age category. Welcome Approach the danger here having done very well in last two coming off a break, with current conditions to suit him very well. However, booked with Darryll Holland who’s decent enough of a jockey but seems to fail every time mount this 8 year old and as last time teamed up was over a year ago serious doubts they hold up to exceptions.
1 point win @ 7/2 with Bet365
Came 4th – 1 point
2.50 – #2 Eternal Youth
A notable improvement in his last 3 runs under Luke Morris, excuses for January run as challenged running a class 5 handicapper, improved since fitted with blinkers in his last two and also fitted with them for current run. Proved superior to Captain Dimitrios despite being drawn wider and carrying 7lb higher, now back to face him and holds an advantage as both allocated same weights and drawn side by side. Also, Captain Dimitrios booked with Cathy Gannon who’s not much below Luke Morris in stats and performance but the last win with current mount was last July and with her tendency to ruin runs on favs there is a big chance for Eternal Youth to recreate last scene.
2 point win @ 10/3 with Bet365
Came 4th -2 points
4.50 – #4 Piccolo Express
Recent course and distance winner, returning to class 6 after a class 5 adventure but one without much disgrace in it. Drawn well in this 11 runners field, weights up a bit since last class 6 run but nothing serious to hold him back. A usual mount, J-P Guillambert, had him in many runs throughout this 5 year old’s career with decent results at display. Opposed by Polemica and Spinning Ridge, the former shows the same progress characteristics in terms of race results, booked jockey and going up and down in class and weights which makes her the worthiest opponent for him. Both drawn wide, Polemica up in weights and Spinning Ridge drawn harsh and far from being a model of consistency so good chances for current selection.

Carlisle
3.00 – #3 Lord Villez
A 6 runner with only three real possibles for this field. Running well in his last three races as placed all of them with a notable improvement in the very last where 2nd. No doubt a good chaser which handles current course and going, also the only one in the card proven on heavy. Teamed with Graham Lee who’s top jockey for current field and showing good stats for course and race type, and though won only once here since the beginning of the year should justify his position of top. Carries same weights as last three runs and will have a good chance of overpowering his two rivals Victors Serenade and Solway Sam. Victor Serenade, a top form jumper which goes under top jockey Sam Thomas and cannot be denied, but a chance he won’t like going and distance. Solway Sam, A fine hurdler completing a trio last year and but below best of late ever since up in class and weights and switched to chase, no real evidence he can redeem himself now dropped back to class 4.
2 points win @ 9/4 with Bet365
Won @ 5/2 +5 points
4.00 – #2 Rawaaj
bearing top form in his last 6 starts, constantly going up in class and weights but keeps his progressive nature intact proving he’s up for it every time. Back to class 4 where did fairly well under Jason Maguire, now riding the 5 year old once more and has already brought about good results riding him. Proven on distance and heavy going. Opposed by Decent Lord, another top form jumper which came close to 4 time bid but landed 3rd though not disgraced as only length and a half separated him from the winner. Also proven on heavy and distance but now experiencing a rise in weights which cannot be ignored and with Alan O’Keeffe on board which hasn’t proved much of his riding, cracks can be seen in this rival’s chances.
2 points win @ 11/4 with Bet365
Won @ 11/4 +5.5 points
Newton Abbot
4.15 – #6 Maizy Missle
Coming off a break of 122 days but should go well and no real danger except Webbswood Lad. Held a promising sequence prior to break and now returning under Paul Moloney which also had him in last year’s well conducted trials. As mentioned, opposed by Webbswood Lad gave a good run to win his last coming off a break since 2009, however significantly up in weights and with Tom Molloy on board who’s not the best of them stands a chance of failing this race.
